Tim was born and grew up in industrial Sheffield in the UK during the 1960s. After graduating with a
honours degree in Metallurgy, Tim joined the graduate program of British Steel Stainless as a
technical graduate in the early 1980s. Tim enjoyed early roles in the technical, supply chain and
operations functions before becoming Supply Chain Head for the Hot Rolled Plate Division of
AvestaSheffield following the merger between British Steel Stainless and Avesta AB.
Following the closure of the hot rolled plate mill in Sheffield in 1999, Tim took up the role of
Supply Chain Head for the melting shop in Sheffield and was actively engaged in the next merger with
Outokumpu Oyj to form AvestaPolarit in 2001. After the company was rebranded as Outokumpu in 2004,
Tim was appointed into the position of Supply Chain General Manager for the Long Products Business
Area. Tim also enjoyed a 2 years spell, in the late 2010s, running the bar and rod businesses of
Outokumpu in Sheffield. Tim also was accepted onto the Board of the BSSA during the 2010s and held
the position of BSSA Chairman between 2017 and 2019.
Tim took up his current position of Secretary-General of worldstainless (formerly the ISSF) in
August 2019.
Whilst the stainless steels industry is very much in Tim’s blood …. in fact Tim’s father worked for
all his career in a Sheffield company established by Harry Brearley, Tim does find time to enjoy
many other activities including mountain biking, rock music, real ales, good wines, countryside
walking and not forgetting supporting Sheffield Wednesday, his boyhood football club.
Tim’s life motto is ‘be humble and never lose the enthusiasm you had as a child’
